Armstrong Whitworth F.K.8<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

L’Armstrong Whitworth F.K.8 (surnomm\u00e9 \u00ab Ack W \u00bb ou \u00ab Big Ack \u00bb) \u00e9tait un a\u00e9ronef relativement gros d’apr\u00e8s les normes de la Premi\u00e8re Guerre mondiale; c’\u00e9tait un appareil robuste et fiable qui n’\u00e9tait pas tr\u00e8s agile, mais que les pilotes affectionnaient. Le N\u00e9erlandais Frederick Koolhoven l’avait con\u00e7u pour le constructeur d’a\u00e9ronefs britannique Armstrong Whitworth. Il mesurait plus de 9 m\u00e8tres (30 pieds) de longueur et avait une envergure d’un peu plus de 13 m\u00e8tres (43 pieds), de sorte qu’on s’en servait g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement pour les missions de reconnaissance, de rep\u00e9rage de l’artillerie et des bombardements l\u00e9gers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L’unique moteur du F.K.8 le propulsait \u00e0 une vitesse maximale de 140 kilom\u00e8tres \u00e0 l’heure; l’avion pouvait monter \u00e0 13 000 pieds et avait un rayon d’action de 380 kilom\u00e8tres. Avec son pilote et un observateur ou mitrailleur, l’Ack W ne pouvait emporter que 70 kilogrammes de bombes. Il \u00e9tait en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral muni d’une mitrailleuse Vickers avant fixe et d’une mitrailleuse Lewis mont\u00e9e sur un anneau Scarff.
