En g\u00e9n\u00e9ral, ce biplan fran\u00e7ais tr\u00e8s maniable \u00e9tait muni soit d&rsquo;une mitrailleuse Lewis mont\u00e9e sur un anneau sup\u00e9rieur (au d\u00e9but), soit d&rsquo;une mitrailleuse synchronis\u00e9e Vickers. La plupart des avions du RFC disposaient d&rsquo;une mitrailleuse Lewis que le pilote pouvait faire glisser sur un rail Foster pour la recharger. La plupart des forces alli\u00e9es ont mis progressivement au rancart le Nieuport 17 au d\u00e9but de 1917, mais le RFC l&rsquo;a gard\u00e9 jusqu&rsquo;au d\u00e9but de 1918.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Billy Bishop a remport\u00e9 la majorit\u00e9 de ses victoires aux commandes de son Nieuport qui se distinguait des autres avions de son escadron par son nez, que Billy avait fait peindre en bleu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">S.E.5a de la&nbsp;Royal Aircraft Factory<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Le Scout Experimental 5 (S.E.5) de la Royal Aircraft Factory a \u00e9t\u00e9 un des biplans les plus rapides et les plus stables de la Premi\u00e8re Guerre mondiale; il est entr\u00e9 en service juste avant le Sopwith Camel. Des probl\u00e8mes de moteur l&rsquo;ont emp\u00each\u00e9 d&rsquo;\u00eatre aussi populaire que le Camel, mais le S.E.5a offrait de nombreuses am\u00e9liorations.
