This means that at any point of collection you will be informed of the purpose for which it is being collected and how to exercise your right of access to that information.

The Department of National Defence employs software programs to monitor network traffic, and to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information or otherwise cause damage. Cookies

The Department of National Defence occasionally uses “cookies” as one method of gathering the anonymous information used to improve the functionality of our sites. A “cookie” is a small file that is placed on your hard drive by a Web site. On those sites which do use cookies, the Important Notices (located at the bottom of the page) indicate specifically how they are used, and their use respects the provisions of the Privacy Act. As with other types of information-gathering, cookies are never used to gather specific personal information such as your name, your phone number or your e-mail address. We never attempt to link the information gathered through the use of cookies to the identity of the visitor.

This Web site uses a session cookie if you choose the JavaScript style-switcher option to enable liquid layout. In this case, a “session cookie” is a file that is placed on your hard drive that holds your display preference only.

Information on individual visitors, gathered under the conditions described above, is used by the Department of National Defence employees who need to know the information in order to respond to your request or to ensure the security of this system.
